After our successful campaign for the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition bill and the training of relevant stakeholders in Adamawa, our next stop was Kebbi state in Northwestern Nigeria.
Over the course of three days, we trained government workers, healthcare providers, security agents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, advocates and other stakeholders on the:
- What the VAPP Act is.
- How it changes the landscape.
- What its provisions are and the punishment for offenders.
- The dangers of applying alternate dispute resolution to SGBV cases among others.
Participants of the training signified an increase in knowledge after attendance. The capacity-building training was supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative and the First Lady of Kebbi was represented at the training.
