As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we reflect on a decade of relentless advocacy, support and empowerment in the fight against sexual and gender violence.
Since our inception in 2014, we have made significant progress and left a lasting impact on survivors, communities and policies across Nigeria.
Supporting Survivors
One of our proudest achievements is providing support to over 1,500 survivors of sexual violence. Through comprehensive services including legal aid, psychosocial support, medical assistance and financial aid, we have been a lifeline for survivors seeking justice and healing.
Raising Awareness
Our impactful awareness campaigns, such as Behind The Smile, #SayHerNameNigeria and the Listen, have reached millions across Nigeria. These campaigns have not only raised awareness but have also sparked conversations about consent, gender-based violence and survivor support.
Empowering Young Advocates
We have empowered over 1,000 young advocates with the knowledge and tools needed to lead change in their communities. Our consent education program equips young people with essential information, creating a generation of leaders committed to ending sexual violence.
Policy Advocacy
Advocating for stronger legal frameworks has been at the forefront of our mission. We have championed initiatives like the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law through our #PASSVAPPAct project and the Sexual Harassment Bill, 2020 (SB 77) through our Sexual Harassment Projects. We have and continue to advocate for their passage, domestication and implementation to protect survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.
Community Outreach
Through regular outreach programs, we have educated over 20,000 individuals in local communities, promoting zero tolerance towards sexual violence. These activities have been instrumental in building safer environments and empowering communities to take a stand.
Collaboration and Impact
Collaboration is key to amplifying our impact. We has forged partnerships with local and international organisations, enhancing our reach and effectiveness in supporting survivors and advocating for systemic change.
Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals
Our work intersects with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). By addressing sexual violence, we contribute to broader global efforts towards a more just and equitable world.
Data Collection and Mental Health Initiatives
Since 2020, we have undertaken comprehensive data collection on Sexual Violence Prevention and Support in all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
In addition, our Mental Health Toolkit has empowered survivors and reshaped conversations around mental health and sexual violence.
As we celebrate #10YearsOfSTER, we reaffirm our commitment to continue the fight against sexual and gender violence, support survivors and advocate for a world where everyone can live free from fear.
We say a huge thank you to all our supporters, volunteers and partners who have been integral to our journey.
With you by our side, we will continue to make a difference and build a safer world for all.
Join us in marking this milestone and envisioning a future without sexual and gender-based violence.
