Behind the Smile Campaign: Social Media

April is the Sexual Violence Awareness Month. To commemorate this in 2016, in partnership with Anakle, we launched a campaign called “Behind the Smile Campaign”. The campaign aimed to bring the untold stories and hidden pain of survivors through the use of photography. This project images were captured by Paul Ukonu. This project gained a lot of online young people’s interest in speaking up against sexual violence.

Behind the Smile Campaign: Walk

STER Initiative took the behind the smile campaign  to the streets. We engaged motorists and passers-by on Third Mainland Bridge and Adekunle, Lagos Island on sexual violence. Campaigners were bound in chains to reflect the effects of rape on victims.
