Dr. Ibrahim Banaru Abubakar

Ibrahim Banaru Abubakar is a human rights enthusiast and a senior family medicine resident at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Nigeria, where he works as a first-contact and longitudinal care provider. He has a specialist background in sexual and reproductive health and rights, earning an MPhil with an unyielding commitment to research and advocacy in health policy.

Originally trained in the sciences, receiving a Masters in Health Economics propelled his interest in multidisciplinary research modelled towards health equity and mitigating health disparities in resource-poor settings to achieve universal health coverage.

Ibrahim has earned considerable experience in the development space with stints on the Youth Advisory Board of UNFPA-Nigeria and ONE Campaign International, where he has practised and is up-skilled in conceptualizing and promoting innovative development strategies.

Ibrahim currently serves on the boards of numerous organizations and thematic working groups. Among others, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group’s Health Policy Commission.
