“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” ―
At Stand To End Rape, we try to recognize our volunteers, who go above and beyond in fighting against sexual violence and actively contributing to the day to day running of our initiative.
This month, we would like to recognize Ibifubara Davies for her outstanding work. She is a Psychotherapist with the MHPSS department at STER. In getting to know more about Ibifubara, we asked her a few questions:
What or who inspires you?
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie inspires Ibifubara, She says “It is one thing to write amazing books and it’s another to lead a revolution of Nigerian women fighting for women’s rights. That is pretty inspiring.

How can we address the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) problem in our society?
For GBV to be curbed, Ibifubara believes the culture needs to change. She says “To solve GBV issues, the society needs to stop enabling rape culture and stop raising men to believe that they are entitled to women’s bodies. Also, laws and policies surrounding GBV need to evolve beyond what they are now. This is to ensure that the safety of women, girls, boys and men that are survivors, become a priority”
What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?
Ibifubara’s advice to her 15-year-old self would be “You are not crazy, they just don’t understand yet”
