Volunteer of the Month (February)

“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”
~Winston Churchill

At Stand To End Rape, we try to recognize our volunteers, who go above and beyond in fighting against sexual violence and actively contributing to the day to day running of our initiative.

This month, we would like to recognize Adedayo Onabade for her outstanding work. She is a content curator for STER. In getting to know more about Adedayo, we asked her a few questions:

Who inspires you?

Debola Deji-Kurunmi inspires Adedayo a lot, Adedayo is enthralled by her multi-influential relevance, her passion for women’s capacity development and how she embodies the reality that even the biggest dreams are do-able through radical mind shifts & deliberate action steps.

What is your Mantra?

Our sojourn through this side of the divide is time-constrained and that the power to make the best of every moment rests with us

How can we address the Gender-Based Violence problem in our society?

Adedayo believes that GBV, like many other social vices, can only be trumped by consolidating both individual and concerted efforts. She says it is essential that the average Joe is desensitized to personal prejudices as it is, that social impact organizations help re-orientate people.

What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?

Adedayo would tell her 15-year-old self “Life is more the journey than it is the destination, that it is okay to be imperfect and of course her voice is valid”

What is your definition of a ‘Safe Nigeria’?

A safe Nigeria to Adedayo, is one where everyone regardless of tribe or religion is free of the consequences of bigotry, intolerance and violence brought on by extremism.
