“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” – Kahlil Gibran
At Stand To End Rape, we understand that giving back is at the core of humanity and we love to recognize our volunteers, who go above and beyond in the fight against sexual violence and actively contributing to the day to day running of our initiative.
This month, we would like to recognize Isioma Onyegikei who is an active and efficient volunteer. She is a volunteer with the Programs department of STER. In getting to know more about Isioma, we asked her a few questions:
What or who inspires you?
Isioma is of the opinion that one person cannot inspire you because different people at different times inspire her, for different reasons. However, the majority of people who inspire her are women.
What is your Mantra?
Isioma lives by the quote “Know what you do, learn what you don’t know and know those who know what you don’t know”.
What do you do for fun?
Isioma’s hobbies include writing, cooking, listening to music, dancing, fantasizing about her lover (she lives in her head a lot).
What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?
Isioma would tell her 15-year-old self that “ Tech is the future, open your head if you must, so you can become a Tech bae”
What is your definition of a ‘Safe Nigeria’?
Isioma says a safe Nigeria is “one where I see security officers and I’m relieved instead of being scared that I could be shot for just breathing, a safe Nigeria is one whereas a woman, I don’t have knots in my throat when I walk past a group of boys/men at night – you see there is being a Nigerian and then, there’s being a Nigerian woman”.
STER appreciates all your hard work. Thank you for being part of us. Keep it up Isioma!!!
