STER’s Working Group Takes Action for Women’s History Month
March 22, 2024 STER

As Women’s History Month draws to a close, we are excited to share the impactful work carried out by our 21-person working group at the Olufadi Primary Health Care Centre in Kwara State. This project, supported by the Ford Foundation, not only commemorates the achievements of women but also actively works towards creating a safer and more empowered environment for them.

The recent sensitisation and awareness activity organised by our dedicated team served as a ray of progress in the ongoing battle against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). With a focus on integrating GBV information into routine clinic activities, healthcare workers were equipped with major knowledge to address and combat this pervasive issue effectively.

During the event, our working group shared informative placards aimed at ending SGBV and raising awareness about its prevalence and impact. By engaging both healthcare providers and community members, the activity was to build a culture of understanding, support and advocacy against SGBV.

This leans strongly toward the sustainability of our Primary Healthcare project, which commenced with the capacity building of stakeholders in Kwara state. Through the creation of the 21-man community working group, stakeholder capacities were built with knowledge and resources. They are now, in turn, taking proactive steps to drive change within their communities.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ford Foundation for their unwavering support, which has been instrumental in creating and sustaining these impactful activities. As we continue our journey towards sustainability, we are excited to announce our ongoing work on the Scorecard Project. This project aims to monitor and evaluate the impact of, preventive measures, interventions and to ensure accountability and effectiveness every step of the way in all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory.

Looking ahead, the next phase of our project will focus on the Community Champion project which will empower local leaders to become advocates for healthcare access, gender equality and social justice within their communities.

We are not only celebrating women’s history but actively shaping a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, protected from sexual and gender-based violence.

Join us in our mission to create lasting change and build a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow. Support us NOW.
