In line with our mission to end Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), our recent training initiative in Kwara State, Nigeria, marks a significant step towards sustainable impact.
Following our initial training supported by the Ford Foundation, we are excited to share the progress made by the healthcare professionals who underwent the intensive two-week program.
The trained personnel have become catalysts for change, extending their knowledge to fellow primary healthcare workers across the state. Knowing the importance of continuity, they are actively contributing to breaking the silence around SGBV and providing critical care to survivors.
From private consultation rooms to community outreach, these dedicated professionals are utilising their training to influence attitudes, framing violence as a health problem that demands immediate attention. The impact of their efforts extends beyond physical wounds, addressing the comprehensive needs of survivors and challenging societal misconceptions.
The commitment to patient-provider confidentiality, which was stressed during the training, ensures a safe space for survivors to seek help without fear or judgment.
Our Primary Healthcare Project is not just a one-time intervention but a catalyst for lasting change. As these healthcare professionals continue to champion the cause, we are gearing up for the next phase – the SGBV Accountability Project. This project will assess and rank states based on their support and justice provision for survivors and showcase the impact of preventive efforts.
Stay tuned for updates as we work towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for survivors of SGBV.
