Volunteer Of The Month (January)

Volunteer Of The Month (January)
January 27, 2020 STER

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King Jr.

At Stand To End Rape, we try to recognize our volunteers, who go above and beyond in fighting against sexual violence and actively contributing to the day to day running of our initiative.

This month, we would like to recognize Adaeze Ihediwa for her outstanding work. She is a volunteer with the Legal Team for STER. In getting to know more about Adaeze, we asked her a few questions:

What inspires you?

Adaeze draws inspiration from CNA. Chimamanda inspires her to develop herself as a storyteller. Her friend Faith inspires her to be kind.

What is your Mantra?

Treat Others How You’d Want to Be Treated

How can we address the Gender-Based Violence problem in our society?

Ada believes GBV can be solved by increasing awareness on gender equality, encouraging survivors to seek help & speak up. Most importantly ensuring that those who seek anonymity are protected at all costs.

What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?

Adaeze would tell her 15-year-old self “Not to Try to Fit In & Never Be in A Hurry to Grow Up”

What is your definition of a ‘Safe Nigeria’?

A safe Nigeria to Ada, would mean one where women would not be scared to speak up or stand up for themselves without the fear of being labeled aggressive & irrational. As well as, people are not shamed for their mental health issues or sexuality. Equal rights, access to safe & informed abortions

What is your Instagram handle?
